Sir Michael is welcomed warmly to the Barony Campus

Sir Michael Morpurgo visits Barony Campus

Bestselling author Sir Michael Morpurgo attended the Barony Campus on Friday as part of the Boswell Book Festival, talking to P7 at Lochnorris Primary School and S1 at The Robert Burns Academy about his new book Black Beauty – A Retelling.

The Boswell Book Festival, the world’s only festival of memoir and biography, is held annually at Dumfries House and is organised by the Boswell Trust. The festival weekend includes outreach Education events for local children, which are partly funded by the Council, both at Dumfries House and within local schools.

Children and young people from both schools welcomed Sir Michael to the Campus with Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People. She said: “I was delighted to meet Sir Michael Morpurgo and welcome him to East Ayrshire with our children and young people. Sir Michael is an incredible storyteller who has inspired generations of children and young people through his powerful and moving stories. To hear him speak about a story championing kindness, compassion and humanity, was very inspiring and the young people were really engaged, listening intently. What an incredible experience for our young people.”

And that wasn’t all!

The excitement continued at Auchinleck and St Patrick’s Primary Schools when author Vivian French and illustrator Helen Kellock visited to lead a story-telling workshop. The children had a wonderful time and produced beautiful artwork that was displayed in the Engineering Centre at Dumfries House over the festival weekend.
