Super Tattie joins Burns Day celebrations at Mauchline Primary
Super Tattie, the Council’s new school meal mascot, headed to Burns country on Wednesday to join the Burns Day celebrations at Mauchline Primary School.
The school, which is just a stones-throw from the house where Robert Burns and Jean Armour began married life and the famous Poosie Nansie pub, held a Burns poetry competition and the school’s Catering Services team had Burns Supper ready for the children and young people to enjoy at lunch.
Catering Services will be running special themed days throughout this year in all primary schools and Early Childhood Centres with Pancake Day celebrations coming up on Tuesday 21 February, a special book day themed lunch in March, a space themed day in April, a superhero and princess day in May and a beach party in June before the summer holidays.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, Education and Skills and Culture said: "It was great that Super Tattie was able to join Mauchline Primary for their Burns Day celebrations. The school ensured that their children and young people had a brilliant day celebrating our national bard and the Catering Services team had a delicious Burns Supper ready for their lunch.
"This is the first Catering Services theme day for 2023 with the children and young people enjoying locally sourced haggis, neeps and tatties. There are lots of fun days coming up where the children and young people can enjoy dressing up and also a healthy, nutritious school lunch.
"Remember that all children from P1 to P5 receive a free school meal and that older children and young people may qualify due to your income. All the information you need is on the Council’s website.
"After this very successful visit, Super Tattie will be touring more primary schools and encouraging our children and young people to enjoy a healthy and nutritious school meal."

The Council’s Catering Services uses organic, local and seasonal produce, wherever possible and has designated meat-free days. All meat on offer is sourced from local butchers and the chicken is Red Tractor assured. Main meals and snacks are served with two fresh seasonal vegetables/fresh salad and a piece of fruit. A pick and mix sandwich option is offered daily with salad dishes, yoghurt, fresh fruit and free bread.
