The sound of summer
The Music Service showcased the talent and dedication of children and young people from across East Ayrshire recently with junior and senior summer concerts held at Dean Castle Country Park.
The senior concert got off to a rousing start with a wonderful performance from East Ayrshire Pipes and Drums who performed a number of songs including Scotland the Brave, Bonnie Galloway and When the battle’s over; the East Ayrshire Percussion Ensemble then performed three songs including Day Tripper and This is the Life – with soloist Lucy Pratt from Kilmarnock Academy.
The tone shifted before the interval when the East Ayrshire Jazz Band played songs by Miles Davis, Otis Reading and Duke Ellington.
The second half saw the East Ayrshire String Orchestra and Concert Band performing an incredible selection of songs including Pirates of the Caribbean and selections from The Greatest Showman.
The junior concert included the East Ayrshire Primary String Orchestra and the East Ayrshire Primary Concert Band; and there were two high energy performances of Scottish Opera’s The Tale o’ Tam O’Shanter by Nether Robertland Primary and Annanhill Primary.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People said: “The summer concerts provided an opportunity for children and young people from across East Ayrshire to shine and they did not disappoint, it was a wonderful showcase for our children and young people who displayed talent, commitment and passion for music.
“I would like to thank Dr Julie Carrie, Music Service Manager and the whole team who have worked so hard to provide our children and young people with an opportunity to express themselves through music.”
