Evie and Ashley from Stewarton Academy

Young people from Stewarton Academy invited to London for the Coronation of King Charles III

Ashley and Evie from S4 at Stewarton Academy were invited by the Prince’s Foundation to visit London for the King’s Coronation.

Thanks to Stewarton Academy’s partnership with Dumfries House, which delivered the Prince’s Foundation’s ‘Future Textiles Group’ programme, Evie and Ashely were invited to London for the Coronation weekend, accompanied by staff member Mrs Devlin.

On arrival in London, Ashley and Evie enjoyed attending London’s Net-A-Porter Store’s Modern Artisan afternoon tour of the Alexander McQueen Roses Exhibition. They also saw behind-the-scenes at these exciting fashion platforms and rounded off the afternoon taking part in various sightseeing activities.

On the morning of the Coronation of King Charles III, they attended breakfast and lunch at Lambeth Palace, and later joined the live screening of The Coronation in St Margaret’s Church next to Westminster Abbey, followed by a viewing of the King and Queen’s procession as it left the Abbey.

Ashley and Evie said: “The trip was a once in a life-time experience. We got to see and visit some amazing places. The tour of the Alexander McQueen store was fantastic and we got to talk to some really interesting people about the fashion industry. The coronation day was great, and London was so busy with a real buzz.

“When we found out we were going to be part of the coronation event we were really excited to be involved. This is a one off and an opportunity that we will never get again. The trip was so interesting with us visiting Net a Porter and finding out about how the fashion industry works. The coronation was unbelievable, and we were delighted to have been part of such an important day.”

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Cabinet Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, Education and Skills and Culture said: “What an incredible experience for Ashley and Evie from Stewarton Academy. On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank The Prince’s Foundation at Dumfries House for providing our young people with such a wonderful opportunity. Not only were Ashley and Evie part of an historical event, they also had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fashion industry, which they found fascinating.”
