U18 Boys Shield success at BT Murrayfield
Four boys from S5 and S6 at The Robert Burns Academy - Daniel, Zain, Jake and Sandy and Cameron from Grange Academy - lifted the U18 Boys Shield at BT Murrayfield recently.
The boys were playing for the Ayr/ Wellington team at the National Youth Cup finals at the end of last month, beating Melrose Wasps 36-7 to lift the Shield.
It was a tough game with Ayr leading by just five points at half time. Ayr came back from the break strongly, scoring first followed by a fourth try in the 55th minute by scrum-half Zain. Sandy, the replacement scrum-half, was next to score after Daniel had broken through the Melrose defence with incredible pace.
The final score came after an intercept from Ayr’s own 22, with stand-off Jack Craig securing his second try.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Cabinet Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, Education and Skills and Culture said: “What a fantastic result for Daniel, Zain, Jake and Sandy from The Robert Burns Academy and Cameron from Grange Academy. They all played a key role in Ayr’s victory, securing the U18 Boys Shield at BT Murrayfield and Daniel was also awarded Player of the Match.
“Everyone at both schools are very proud of their achievements and I am pleased to offer my congratulations on behalf of the Council.”
