Waste collection services in East Ayrshire will be affected by industrial action

Waste collection services in East Ayrshire will be affected by industrial action from Wednesday 24 August up to and including Wednesday 31 August.

The announcement of action by Unite the Union and GMB members will have a significant impact on the Council’s ability to deliver waste services and priority will therefore will be given to the collection of household waste, garden waste and commercial waste bins.

Residents are asked not to present their recycling trolley during the week of the industrial action. They should save their recycling and present it bagged with their trolley on the next scheduled collection day, to ensure that we continue together towards our Net Zero target.

Household waste bins and garden waste bins should be presented as normal, however these services may also be affected.

Arrangements may change at very short notice. The Council will aim to update the East Ayrshire Council website -  www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk by 9am, each weekday, with details of any affected routes.

Household waste bins not collected on the normal day will be collected as soon as possible and when resources allow. Cleaner Communities will also ensure that residents receive their full allocation of garden waste bin collections, collecting any missed bins at a later date. Details will be on the Council’s website.

It is hoped that the recycling centres at Garlaff, Cumnock and Western Road, Kilmarnock will remain open.

If possible, additional appointments will be made available. Appointments can be made online -  www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/recycling

Street cleaning services including servicing of litter bins and maintenance of grassed and flowerbed areas may also be affected. If litter bins are full please do not leave litter on the ground beside the bin, please act responsibly and take your litter home.
