What's the big iDEA? - Digital East Ayrshire

East Ayrshire Council has launched plans to help citizens and businesses across East Ayrshire to improve their digital skills and help address the digital skills gap.

Partnering with The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA), the Council is rolling out a free digital learning programme for people of all ages living, learning or working in East Ayrshire.

iDEA has been developed to help inspire people all over the world to become digital citizens, workers, makers, entrepreneurs and gamers to enhance their employability and to help them become economically active. It’s about helping people feel more confident with digital technologies, and helping them make the most of opportunities at home and at work.

By participating in a series of online challenges and events, people can win career and life enhancing skills, unlock new opportunities and gain industry recognised awards that help them stand out from the crowd. For every challenge completed, participants will receive a digital badge that can be used to showcase what they have achieved.

Launching the programme during National Digital Learning week, Councillor Gordon Jenkins, Cabinet Member for Management and Resources welcomed the introduction of iDEA in East Ayrshire.

He said: “iDEA is about lifelong learning, for anyone who wants to develop their digital skills. Over the next 10 years, it is estimated that 90% of jobs will require digital skills and East Ayrshire Council is committed to supporting our communities to acquire the skills and knowledge required. This free programme will complement the other initiatives taking place as we strive to close the digital skills gap.”
