White Ribbon Cup set to tackle gender-based violence
Senior pupils from no less than 22 Ayrshire secondary schools will soon take part in a five-a-side football tournament while learning about gender-based violence and the issues faced by women and girls in our communities.
The White Ribbon Cup will take place on Wednesday 10 June from 10am-2pm at Cumnock Juniors Football Club, Townhead Park, Cumnock.
This pan-Ayrshire event is open to all and promises to be a fantastic day of football as well as an opportunity to engage with young people about tackling violence against women and girls.
There will also be information stalls from a range of local organisations including Police Scotland, The Killie Community Charity, and Ayrshire's Violence Against Women Partnerships.
Councillor Jim McMahon, East Ayrshire’s White Ribbon Champion said: “This is set to be a fantastic day that will not only be good, competitive fun for the pupils taking part, but will also allow them to learn more about the work going on to prevent violence against women and girls and how they can play a part in this.”
Sergeant Kenneth Blackmore from Police Scotland added: “We are leading on a multi-agency initiative to raise awareness of violence against women and girls within Ayrshire Division. As part of this, we have organised the White Ribbon Cup to help us engage with senior pupils from each of the secondary schools competing for the trophy. We’d love to see as many people as possible coming along to show their support on the day!”
Thanks go to Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise and Cashback for Communities for supporting the event.
