Working in Wellies online careers event

The online event, which can be accessed at any time, creates an inspiring space to connect and engage teachers and their students with professionals working across a variety of STEM and rural sectors. Through the event, teachers have access to a large suite of resources including a structured lesson plan, an interactive pupil passport, and a variety of ‘career talk’ videos from a host of professionals working for various organisations, including, SP Energy Networks, University of Glasgow, Outward Bound Trust, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and LANTRA Scotland.

 Councillor Fiona Campbell, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning said: “It is wonderful to see that LOST have found a way to deliver this engaging young workforce programme within the current climate of restrictions. I enjoyed last year’s event at Dumfries House so much; watching the young people be inspired by professionals who were sharing their personal journeys into jobs that they love. This is particularly important for our young people here in East Ayrshire as we have such a rich, diverse, rural landscape that has so much economic potential.”

Alyson Conquer from LOST said: “We have tried to gather experiences from people working across a range of areas, who have progressed through various different pathways to reach their destinations. It has been a pleasure speaking to so many people who clearly love their job and are passionate about their work and careers. I am sure this will come across to pupils and teachers and hope it will inspire young people to think creatively and ambitiously about their future.”
