Young people to be celebrated at showcase event

Nominations are now open for the 2018 East Ayrshire Year of Young People Awards which will be held on 5 December at Dumfries House.

The event will be the perfect way to round off a year full of activities that have been held to celebrate the Year of Young People. It will celebrate young people’s achievements, diversity and civic contribution and will give them a positive platform to be recognised as exceptional young citizens.

East Ayrshire’s Young Champion will be announced on the evening, while other award categories will include Diversity & Inclusion Champion; Environment and Recycling Champion; Intergenerational Champion; Young Volunteer Champion; Sporting & Physical Activities Champion; Unsung Hero: Young Carers Champion; Youth Voice Champion; Champion Apprentice; Enterprise Champion of the Year and Health and Wellbeing Champion.

If you know of a young person aged between 8 and 25 who has made a difference, then now is your chance to give them the recognition they deserve. Nominations will close on 21 September.

Depute Provost Claire Leitch, who is also Children’s Champion, said: “I think it’s a wonderful idea to celebrate the achievements of young people in this way. The Year of Young People has been a great success so far and we’ve seen loads of events being held and still have more to come including youth conferences and a sitting of the Scottish Youth Parliament in East Ayrshire.

“Our young people have demonstrated their talents, their creativity and their ability to contribute to their communities and this showcase event will really allow them to shine and have their achievements celebrated.”
