Youngest volunteer helps Christmas appeal
Vibrant Communities were joined this week by their youngest ever volunteer, Alice Slater aged 8, from Gargieston Primary School.
Alice had expressed to her mum that she wanted to volunteer after a trip to Glasgow where she saw people affected by homelessness. Alice’s mum then contacted East Ayrshire Volunteer Centre, to find out where would be appropriate for her to give her time and help out, given her young age. They immediately thought of Vibrant Communities.
Alice has since been able to assist the Play & Early Intervention team with their Reverse Advent Calendar Appeal and she has spent time after school making up parcels of food items, toiletries and Christmas treats for families, local charities and local food banks.
Lorraine Dick, Volunteer and Partner Development Officer with East Ayrshire Council’s Vibrant Communities, praised Alice for her enthusiasm and commitment.
She said: “Everyone at Vibrant Communities would like to thank Alice and her family. This was such a kind gesture from someone so young and Alice showed such a mature, caring side when helping out.”
