Youth conferences go digital

This year’s annual Youth Conferences went digital this week due to the pandemic, and young people from P7 to S6 got the chance to discuss topics that matter to them.

Hosted by Vibrant Communities and held over two days, the conferences focused on the themes of Celebrating Diversity and Lockdown Mental Health. Young people got to learn about discrimination and made a pledge to challenge it, while the Senior Youth Conference tested some self-help tools to deal with anxiety such as breathing exercises and daily wellbeing tools.

Pupils were also given an opportunity to feed back their views on East Ayrshire Council’s work during the pandemic and to make suggestions for our future recovery and regeneration.

Thanks go to members of the Children and Young People’s Cabinet including Paige Holland, Ewan Carmichael and Catriona Smith who presented very engaging workshops.
