Civic recognition for lieutenancy work
Provost Claire Leitch invited two special guests to the Council meeting this week to receive civic recognition for their work with the lieutenancy of Ayrshire and Arran.
Bill Stafford was firstly recognised for his recent promotion to Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran. He has been a Deputy Lieutenant since 2013 and succeeds Colonel John Dalrymple Hamilton who retired from the role earlier this year after serving as Vice Lord-Lieutenant since 1998.
Bill worked in local government for many years, and most recently as Executive Director of Neighbourhood Services with East Ayrshire Council. He also has vast experience of working across various community-led projects and has had extensive charity involvement with organisations such as Ayrshire Rivers Trust and Loudoun Valley Trust.
Civic recognition was also paid to Eric Ross who has recently retired from his position as Deputy Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran after four years. Eric was a former councillor for many years including being Convenor of the former Cumnock and Doon Valley District Council and also Chair of the Planning and Development Committee in East Ayrshire.
Eric has contributed significantly to both Cumnock during his time as councillor, and Ayrshire as a whole through his work with the lieutenancy.
Provost Leitch said: “The Council was delighted to recognise Bill and Eric’s commitment to public service, and their support for our communities across Ayrshire and Arran. We congratulate Bill on his promotion and look forward to working with him in the years ahead, and we wish Eric every happiness in his retirement.”
