East Ayrshire’s future goes to consultation with LDP2
The future of planning in East Ayrshire has been mapped out - and it’s now open for public comment with the launch of the Council’s Local Development Plan 2 consultation.
Residents, community groups, developers and local businesses are all being asked to have their say on the Proposed Local Development Plan 2 (LDP2), which sets out future of planning in the area.
Publication of the Proposed Local Development Plan 2 is the next step in the process towards adoption of the Plan which looks at a whole range of subjects including housing , transport and our environment in every part of East Ayrshire.
This new plan will replace the current Plans adopted in 2017 and 2020. It takes into account all factors and circumstances that have changed since the previous plan was implemented and sets out policies and frameworks to guide the determination of all planning applications received by the Council.
LDP2 comprises two separate main documents accompanied by a map that will guide planning applications throughout East Ayrshire from 2023 until 2028:
- Volume 1: Vision, aims, spatial strategy and policies (PDF 72.58Mb)
- Volume 2: Settlement maps (site allocations) (PDF 36.01Mb)
- Rural area map (PDF 21.29 Mb)
It will be supplemented by a range of further guidance. Accompanying the Proposed Plan at this stage are the following guidance documents:
The formal consultation the LDP2 is now open and will run until 4.00pm on 22 July 2022.
Commenting on the consultation Councillor Clare Maitland, Cabinet Member for Planning, East Ayrshire Council said: “This consultation and our proposed LDP2 herald a new era for planning decisions within East Ayrshire. Building on our previous plans, and following over two years of extensive research and continuous community engagement, it gives all of us a chance to see and have our say about the proposals, which will do so much to influence our future neighbourhoods, how we will live, work, travel and how we can do so sustainably.
“I strongly urge everyone who has an interest in the future of their communities, their local built and natural environment to visit our webpages, to have a look at the plans - which include specific proposals for all our communities.
Please take this final opportunity to give your opinion about the policies, identified sites and land-uses which will be used to direct and assess development in East Ayrshire in the future.
“Our plan supports the objectives of our climate change strategy, local placemaking and the Ayrshire Growth Deal. It sets a proactive framework to address a number of issues in East Ayrshire, such as the regeneration of Kilmarnock town centre and South Central Kilmarnock, development constraints in Stewarton, flooding, vacant and derelict land and protecting the historic and natural environment.”
