Fit for the Road-4

Fit For the Road event helps drivers hone their skills

Experienced drivers got the chance to brush up on their driving knowledge and receive advice from road safety professionals at an event organised by Ayrshire Roads Alliance and North Ayrshire Council road safety teams.

The free ‘Fit for the Road’ event, held at Largs Sailing Club, involved presentations from Police Scotland, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and a local optician. Guests also got to try the online Highway Code Theory and Hazard Perception tests, watch a demonstration of CPR and defibrillation by Scottish Fire and Rescue, and visit various information stands.

Local members of RoSPA Advanced Drivers and IAM Roadsmart carried out assessed drives in the driver’s own vehicle on the day too.

Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities, said: “Events like these are useful for even the most experienced drivers as it’s important to keep up to date with the latest road safety information so that all road users remain as safe as possible. Thanks to everyone who came along and took part in what was a very informative and successful event.”
