King Street update 21 July 2025

More restrictions on King Street will be lifted from 2pm today, providing pedestrian access and allowing more businesses and retailers to open.

All businesses located south of Water Lane, towards St Marnock Street can now re-open. Similarly, all Sandbed Street residents from the same stretch can now return to their properties.

All businesses from and including Halifax Bank of Scotland across to Lily’s Fashions towards the Cross can also re-open.

The lane running alongside Bank of Scotland from West Sturrock Street Car Park will reopen to allow pedestrian access to shops running down that section of the street.

A small section of King Street remains closed, and we are working with our contractors to identify safe solutions to open this section up safely as quickly as we can while recognising some restrictions will remain in place to allow for safe demolition.

Sandbed Street will reopen for pedestrians but remains closed to all vehicles, as a section of this street is still closed behind the site of the demolished building. We are working with private waste companies regarding the uplift of commercial waste from businesses backing onto Sandbed Street while these restrictions remain in place and we will conform details in due course.

Demolition is progressing as planned.

We thank the community for their continued patience and understanding.
