King Street Update 24 July 2025

The demolition of the property destroyed by the fire on King Street has been moving at pace throughout the week, with all indications suggesting these works should be complete by tomorrow, Friday 25 July.

Structural engineers are presently on site overseeing this final phase of works. Rubble from the demolition has been piled up against the gable end of the adjoining property as additional support and the former Frasers building has also been secured further.

The end of the demolition work is good news for most of the remaining properties that have been unable to access their premises due to the cordon in place.

Friday 25 July

By 4pm Friday access will be reinstated to reconnect both ends of King Street, with a pathway for pedestrians running under the canopy from WH Smiths down towards Boots and beyond. A reduced cordon will remain in place around the immediate demolition site and new hoardings will be erected early next week to secure the site further.

By 4pm Friday all remaining businesses along the Bank of Scotland side of the street will be given access to their premises, to enable them to open on Saturday morning, if they are able to do so.

Monday 28 July

The King Street Recovery Fund for local businesses will go live for applications on Monday morning. This link will be shared in due course.

10am Monday - those businesses occupying the adjoining building to the demolition site will be given access to their premises to allow them to assess the condition of their property and utility companies will be on site to assist as required. This includes Kilmarnock Dental Studio, Killie Smiles, Salvation Army and Pop-Up Scotland.

As the clear up continues, we expect the large demolition vehicles will move off site from King Street early next week but Sandbed Street will remain closed to vehicles for the foreseeable future.
