King Street update 25 July
We can advise that demolition of the property on King Street is now complete, with remedial clean-up works taking place this afternoon. The large demolition crane will move off site later today.
Access restored
By 4pm this afternoon access will be reinstated to reconnect both ends of King Street, with a pathway for pedestrians running under the canopy from WH Smiths down towards Boots and beyond. A reduced cordon will remain in place around the immediate demolition site and new hoardings will be erected next week to secure the site further.
Business access
Also by 4pm this afternoon all remaining businesses along the Bank of Scotland side of the street will be given access to their premises, to enable them to open on Saturday morning, if they are able to do so.
Sandbed Street
Sandbed Street will remain closed to vehicles for the next few days. East Ayrshire Council has been collecting all commercial waste from Sandbed Street businesses while these restrictions are in place.
Monday 28 July
Arrangements for Monday remain unchanged.
The King Street Recovery Fund for local businesses will go live for applications on Monday morning and this link will be shared with businesses in due course.
Those businesses occupying the adjoining building to the demolition site will be given access to their premises at 10 am on Monday to allow them to assess the condition of the property and utility companies will be on site to assist as required. This includes Killie Smiles, Salvation Army and Pop-Up Scotland.
