Kings Street update Monday 28 July 2025
Progress on King Street Kilmarnock is continuing apace.
Demolition
Progress on King Street Kilmarnock is continuing apace. The demolition is now complete, with contractors undertaking final works to tidy up the site and secure the adjacent former Frasers building.
Access extended
We are preparing to further increase public access on King Street. Herras fencing will be removed as the tidy-up continues, further reducing the cordon. All businesses in the affected area now have access to their properties and utility companies are on site, working to restore connections to the remaining properties.
New hoardings
Towards the end of the week, new hoardings will be erected around the perimeter of demolished building – this includes a small section of King Street, Sandbed Lane and Sandbed Street and they will remain in place until such times as the future of the site is determined. Sandbed Lane will be permanently closed while these hoardings are in place.
We expect that when the new hoardings are complete by the end of the week, all herras fencing will be removed with the exception of some small sections where utility companies are conducting repairs.
Sandbed Street
Sandbed Street will remain closed to vehicles. East Ayrshire Council has been collecting all commercial waste from Sandbed Street businesses while these restrictions are in place.
Business Support
The King Street Recovery Fund for local businesses opened for applications first thing this morning. Business Advisors from East Ayrshire Council have been contacting all those affected to assist with applications as necessary.
