Loanhead and Gargieston Primaries visit Hampden

Loanhead Primary pupil has artwork on Scotland team luggage!

Children from Loanhead and Gargieston Primaries had the experience of a lifetime this week thanks to the Scottish Football Association and The Killie Community.

The children from Gargieston are part of The Killie Community Girls Only school football team, while the children from Loanhead are part of the charity's SFA funded Extra Time programme, which is an afterschool provision within The Killie Community Hub.

The children had participated in a competition to design images for the Scotland team’s luggage and were invited to a VIP experience at Hampden Park, Scotland’s national stadium.

They were treated to a behind the scenes tour including the tunnel where the team buses arrive, the referees’ room, the home and away dressing rooms, and the warmup area for players.

They even got to walk through the tunnel to the famous Hampden roar and on to the pitch side.

That wasn’t all - they also met Scotland team players - George Hirst, Grant Hanley and Finlay Curtis!

And just when they thought the day couldn’t get any better, it was announced that Aidan from Loanhead Primary’s design had made it onto the team’s luggage. His reaction was incredible and the whole group celebrated with him.

The day ended with a quick visit to the national football museum before heading home.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People said: “What an incredible experience for our children. Huge thanks to the SFA and The Killie Community for making this visit happen and treating them like VIPs.

“I would also like to congratulate Aidan on his artwork being selected for the Scotland team luggage. I am absolutely delighted for him. This is something he will remember forever!”
