Lunch fit for a Queen
Kilmaurs Primary was the venue for a very special Platinum Jubilee lunch celebration.
The school’s Catering Services team, led by Catering Manager Chris Reilly, prepared a lunch fit for a Queen for the children and young people and invited guests.
The lunch was part of a collective approach developed by the Catering Service, which is led by Chris Walker, Food Services Manager and Mark Hunter, Strategic Lead for Food and Facilities; across all our schools and catering teams to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
At Kilmaurs Primary, Deputy Lieutenant William Stafford and his wife Ann, attended on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Her Majesty The Queen’s personal representative; also in attendance were local members, Councillors Stephen Canning and Ellen Freel; the Leader of the Labour Opposition Group, Councillor Maureen McKay and Linda McAulay-Griffiths, Chief Education Officer and Head of Education.
They enjoyed Platinum Pizza, Kensington Chicken Curry and for dessert, Jubilee Jewel Jellies. Jock from P5 entertained the VIP guests by playing his chanter during lunch.
The children and young people had a brilliant time celebrating the Platinum Jubilee in style, with many dressed as kings and queens.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Cabinet Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, Education and Skills and Culture said: “I was so sorry to miss all the fun at Kilmaurs Primary and the wonderful meal. Food is an important part of every celebration and our Catering Services team wanted to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and encourage school children to celebrate food.
“The Platinum Jubilee menu was served in schools across East Ayrshire, ensuring our children and young people could participate in such a historic celebration as the Platinum Jubilee.”
