Roon the Toon timings and road closures

Kilmarnock’s 10k road race, Roon the Toon, will return on Sunday 12 June at 10am.

This year the event has been awarded the TruWealth scottishathletics National 10km Road Championship races, after being recognised nationally as a well-organised, competitive event over a fast but challenging course. National Championship status means that the race will attract an even higher calibre of runner, with Olympian Callum Hawkins already signed up.

The runners will start from the Ayrshire Athletics Arena and the course will follow:

Queens Drive – Welbeck Street – Old Mill Road – Fowlds Street - St Marnock Street – Dundonald Road – Holmes Road – U34 – Dundonald Road – John Finnie Street – West George Street – Portland Street – The Cross – King Street – Fowlds Street – Old Mill Road – Welbeck Street – Queens Drive

finishing back at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena.

The course is fast and is suited to both novices and runners who are aiming to set a personal best. The fastest runners are expected to finish the course in around 30 minutes.

The affected roads will be closed from 09:00 until 12:00 and signed diversions will be in place for the duration of the event. Access to the electric vehicle charging hub at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena will be restricted, alternative charging points are available.

At the finishing line runners will receive a unique race medal, T-shirt, two free tickets for a Kilmarnock FC home game (restrictions apply), the Browning’s race Empire Biscuit and a free pint, prosecco or fruit juice courtesy of the Park Hotel, Kilmarnock.

Roon the Toon has been organised safely and in full compliance with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, by the Kilmarnock Harriers in partnership with East Ayrshire Council, the Ayrshire Roads Alliance and East Ayrshire Leisure.
