Volunteers Week 1

Thank you volunteers!

East Ayrshire Council celebrated the start of Volunteers’ Week this year by tying the celebrations in with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Since Volunteers’ Week falls in the same week as the Jubilee, two trees were planted as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy project at Council HQ in Kilmarnock with a plaque underneath dedicating them to the many volunteers who work hard every day to help out in East Ayrshire’s communities.

Volunteer community gardeners from across the area were invited along to see the plaque being unveiled.

Eddie Fraser, Chief Executive of East Ayrshire Council, said: “We are so grateful to our volunteers who work selflessly all year round to help those who need it most. Their time and their kindness makes a real difference to the lives of others and my thanks go to all of them for their incredible efforts. I hope they will stop by soon to visit the trees which have been planted in their honour.”
