Junior Road Safety Officer seminar success
Primary school pupils from across Ayrshire joined together to take part in a Junior Road Safety Officer (JRSO) seminar at the Walker Hall in Troon this week.
The seminar was held to introduce this year’s new JRSOs to their role which involves promoting road safety and active travel within their school.
Pupils attended workshops focusing on voice projection; creating posters to remind people to wear a seatbelt; and taking a look at the the JRSO website, as well as other topics to help increase their knowledge of road safety and their duties over the year.
The pupils also had the chance to share ideas with JRSOs from other schools; as well as meeting the Beat the Street mascot who visited all the way from Reading.
Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities, said: “Road safety and active travel are such important issues, and seeing the young people’s enthusiasm for promoting these within their schools was very impressive. I wish all of our new JRSOs every success in their roles which I’m sure they will carry out brilliantly.”
