As the festive season comes around again and we look forward to spending valuable time with our families and friends, it’s important to remember those who may be struggling at this time of year. As I am currently supporting MND Scotland as my chosen charity, I will be thinking especially about everyone who is currently living with motor neuron disease and the families and carers who are helping them to deal with this cruel disease.

Alex Ritchie has been celebrating his centenary in Darvel. Mr Ritchie enlisted with the Royal Air Force in 1942 and served in the RAF during WW2.

A local Proclamation ceremony took place on Sunday 11 September in East Ayrshire to formally announce the start of the new King’s reign following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
