With climate change and the environment high on everyone’s agenda just now, Kilmarnock’s Town Centre Regeneration team is making big progress with their plans to make the area more attractive and easily accessible for pedestrians, improve connections with the centre, and open up “green space” for everyone to enjoy.

East Ayrshire Council’s strong commitment to meeting carbon emission reduction targets was reinforced this week as council approved its Climate Change Public Sector Report for 2021, which has now been submitted to  the Scottish Government to support the country’s climate change action plans.

East Ayrshire Council and Kilmarnock Business Association (KBA) scooped a special judges award at the first ever Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP) Scotland Loves Local Awards.

The historic conservation village of Ochiltree has become a ‘Biosphere Community’, the fifth to be designated within Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere, and the first in East Ayrshire.

In 2018, authorities across Scotland transformed Housing services and adopted a Housing First and Rapid Rehousing approach to help find solutions to eradicate homelessness.

In the last ten years, the Council has completed 477 new affordable or reconfigured homes across East Ayrshire and improved thousands of our existing homes. At a special meeting of Cabinet, investment of £182.7m was agreed, which will help ensure that our communities have access to a range of good quality affordable homes.

Four East Ayrshire projects have received almost £1.3 million of funding from the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund which will help people into work; provide skills, training and support; improve leisure and cultural provision in rural communities and help the environment too.
