Josephine Vergarvwen has been celebrating her centenary in Ayr.

Councillor June Kyle visited Ann and Billy Lennox from Cumnock recently to pass on congratulations as they celebrated fifty years of marriage.

Provost Claire Leitch and Councillor Billy Crawford visited Cumnock couple Hugh and Ann Arthur recently to congratulate them on 60 years of marriage.

The couple was presented with flowers on behalf of East Ayrshire Council.  Deputy Lieutenant Eric Ross handed over a telegram from the King and Queen Consort.

Provost Claire Leitch visited Catrine couple Jim and Mary Bunting recently to congratulate them on 60 years of marriage. 

Progress on King Street Kilmarnock is continuing apace.

Works at the Palace Theatre in Kilmarnock will shortly commence and a number of access changes will be put in place to accommodate these works.

We can advise that demolition of the property on King Street is now complete, with remedial clean-up works taking place this afternoon. The large demolition crane will move off site later today.

The demolition of the property destroyed by the fire on King Street has been moving at pace throughout the week, with all indications suggesting these works should be complete by tomorrow, Friday 25 July.

Here's our update on the demolition works and restricted access on King Street following last week's fire.

Our teams are still working hard with demolition crews, cleaning squads and shop owners and tenants to clear the debris and aftermath of last week's fire. 

More restrictions on King Street will be lifted from 2pm today, providing pedestrian access and allowing more businesses and retailers to open.
